A Letter To My Former Self

I write to thee, my former self,
From days thou hast not seen.
I pray it finds thee safely,
Now heed my mournful plea.

Beware the love that lies in wait
To snatch thee up, bear thee away
It came, so sweet, so beautifully,
It left thee then, in disarray.

It tore thee up inside
When shared the love was not.
Thou gavest thy heart to he who did not want it,
And left a gaping hole.
An open, waiting funeral plot.
A broken corpse laid out to rot.
A dripping wound left from gunshot
That to this day repaired is not.

But oh, those days were born in bliss,
When love had veiled thine eyes.
A dream to follow with a hopeful heart
Not seeing Hope's disguise.

But I digress, please listen well.
Forget him now, turn love away
Lest thee succumb and become me,
With heart so empty ere my dying day.
DOES NOT REFLECT MY CURRENT VIEWS!

I wrote this a while ago...during a hard time. I haven't written poetry in a while and this was the first one that started a few others.
