I'm building up a portfolio of fictional album and single covers for what I want to do in the real world of illustration once I graduate. And where better to start than my favorite band, Modest Mouse!

Single cover for King Rat. The illustration's based on some lyrics towards the beginning of the song. Watercolor, ink

We spun like birds on fire right down towards the residence and I
I took all that I desired, even crooks have to pay the rent.
We swam like rats on fire right, right down the reservoir
We took all that we could carry but we tried to carry more.

"We spun like birds on fire..." I love all of your more abstract covers, (Alone Down There being a personal favorite) but I do like the more straightforward interpretation as well.

That's completely true!!

Unfortunately I only ever got to see them once, in the outdoor Jones Beach theater in NY....they got through 5 songs and then a storm appeared; lighting struck the rows of seats behind me and it started torrentially pouring.... I was heartbroken!! But I must see them again in the future.
